LAND FOR THE CAMP: we pray that God will guide our steps and open the doors for us to find the ideal place build the camp, so that we can expand our reach and impact.
TEAM AND VOLUNTEERS: We ask the Lord to continue equipping our team and volunteers, promoting unity and community, so that this fellowship may be reflected in the message we share with the youth.
NEW PARTNERSHIPS: We pray that the Gospel message will be shared with clarity and reach new partner churches, strengthening the mission and expanding God’s Kingdom in Brazil.

Our History

The Rawlings Foundation ministry in Brazil began in 2009, when Director Steve Theis first heard about the organization in Costa Rica. From a conversation with a friend, he learned about the global impact of the camps in sharing the gospel. In 2011, he contacted Herb Rawlings to discuss the possibility of a partnership in Brazil. After several years of planning and prayer, in 2012, he began to search for properties in the country, but God had other plans. Together with his family, he decided to rent to run camps. During a trip to the Northeast, he had the opportunity to hold a camp in Recife, in partnership with the Palavra da Vida Camp. This opened doors for continuous collaboration with Palavra da Vida in Brazil, allowing evangelistic camps to be held throughout the year for children from various parts of Brazil. Although the planned property has not yet been acquired, many partnerships have been established, showing the blessing of the Lord’s care, providing a continuous opportunity to share the gospel and impact lives. The story is a testimony of how God opened doors and guided every step of this ministry.

Stephen Theis

Executive Director

Stephen Theis is the director of Highland Camps Brazil. Born in Philadelphia, he is married to Marissol and is the father of three daughters: Jéssica, Amanda, and Melissa.

Steve grew up helping his father, Jorge Theis, founder of Palavra da Vida Nordeste, managing camps throughout Brazil. He met the Rawlings Foundation in 2009 in Costa Rica through a conversation with his friend Abby Prado.

Upon learning about Dr. George Rawlings’ vision and the impact of camps around the world, he was inspired and, in 2011, began discussions with Herb Rawlings to bring the mission to Brazil. After several challenges, in 2012, he established a partnership with Palavra da Vida, organizing camps in Brazil and reaching thousands of young people. His journey is marked by faith in God and an unwavering pursuit of sharing the message of Christ with the youth.
